The history of Reschen pass:
The Reschen Pass, known in Italian as Passo di Resia, has served as one of the most strategically important Alpine crossings in Europe for over two thousand years. Roman legions marched through it, medieval merchants traded across it, and warring empires contested it for centuries. Sitting at 1,507 metres above sea level on the border of modern-day Italy and Austria, the pass connects the Venosta Valley in South Tyrol with the Inn Valley in Tyrol. Its most dramatic chapter came in 1950, when the construction of a hydroelectric dam flooded the ancient villages of Curon, Resia, and Graun, displacing over 160 families and submerging an entire medieval landscape beneath the waters of the newly created Lake Reschen. The lonely bell tower of old Curon, still rising from the lake's surface, stands as the most visible — and haunting — reminder of all that the pass has witnessed and swallowed over the millennia.
